Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb flank steak (or chicken/turkey), thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon apple vinegar (or dry apple juice)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 large yellow onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce (optional)
  • Vegetable oil for cooking

Instructions

  1. Slice the flank steak against the grain into thin strips. Prepare the onion by slicing it and mince the garlic while grating the ginger.
  2. In a bowl, combine the sliced beef with soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, and salt. Mix well to coat evenly and let marinate for about 10 minutes.
  3. Heat a wok or frying pan over medium-high heat and add vegetable oil.
  4. Add the marinated beef in a single layer; sear for about 2 minutes without stirring. Stir-fry until fully cooked through (about another minute) and set aside.
  5. In the same pan, add more oil if needed, then sauté onions, garlic, and ginger until onions are translucent.
  6. Return cooked beef to the pan with onions; stir to combine. Add hoisin sauce if desired and season with salt and pepper.
  7. Serve hot over rice or noodles.
